Mount Zion Lutheran Church has been serving the Missoula area with the Gospel of Jesus Christ for over 30 years. At our heart and core we are a family of believers gathered around the Word of God to hear the message of forgiveness and to proclaim that message to our friends and neighbors.  God sent his son Jesus to take away our sins and remove our guilt forever. This serves as the primary motivation for all that we do as a congregation. Through our Bible camps, outreach efforts, and community service projects we enjoy actively helping our friends and neighbors in all sorts of ways.

Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod

But our local church has broader reach than just Western Montana. Through our partnership with our national church body, we can help spread God's kingdom throughout the world.  MountZion is part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The WELS, characterized as theologically conservative (Bible-based), is the third largest Lutheran church body in America. With national offices in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, WELS began in 1850 when three German pastors met in Milwaukee. Today, it has grown to over 1200 congregations in North America. It has over 400,000 baptized members, which includes over 300,000 communicants, served by over 1000 pastors. The synod operates four ministerial education schools: Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, Wisconsin; Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minnesota; Luther Preparatory School, Watertown, Wisconsin; and Michigan Lutheran Seminary, Saginaw, Michigan. As members of the WELS, we share with our fellow believers in our synod's stated mission As men, women, and children united in faith and worship by the Word of God, the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod exists to make disciples throughout the world for time and for eternity, using the gospel in word and sacrament to win the lost for Christ and to nurture believers for lives of Christian service, all to the glory of God.For more information about the WELS, check out www.wels.net. You will find a wide variety of information and resources available.

What We Believe PDF Print E-mail
  • That the Bible is the inspired Word of God revealed to us.

  • That in the Bible God has revealed all that we need to know for our salvation; therefore we believe:

  • In the Triune God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

  • That mankind is totally corrupt, dead in sin and doomed to condemnation by itself.

  • That God out of love took pity on us and sent his Son to be our Savior.

  • That Jesus Christ, true God from all eternity, became true man by being born of the virgin Mary, to live for us and die in our place.

  • That God the Holy Spirit uses the Good News of this message to create faith and change lives.

  • That by trusting in Jesus as Lord and Savior we receive the forgiveness of sins and righteousness.

  • That because of Jesus eternal life is ours.
